The town and people of Ocotopec, Chiapas

Chiapas is a state of Mexico
The State of Chiapas has a surface area of 75,634 square km. It is situated in the southeast of the Mexican Republic and is distant at some 1200 kilometers from the Capital of the Mexican Republic, the Federal District.

The Zoque are one of many ethic peoples in the region
In Chiapas natives of several ethnic groups live together including: Tzeltales, Tzotziles, Tojilabales, Lacandones, Enough, Mames, Zoques, Cakchiqueles and Mochos. Many languages, almost all originating from the Mayan tongue, are spoken as different dialects throughout the region.

The native Zoques live in a mountainous zone situated near the 100 Km marker of the Al highway north of the City of Tuxtla Gutiérrez, capital of the State. They constitute a population of roughly 45,000 persons, distributed in small communities found among the populations of the small towns of Ocotepec, Copainalá, and Coapilla.

Here are some images of the town and it's people.
